Props For My New Favourite Restaurant

Kay West reviews Bistro 2one5 this week.

Tim and I first ate there in March of this year, and have been back several times since. Other than their waitress telling us we ordered too much food the last time we were there, we've always enjoyed it.

I was unaware they had recently introduced an Artisan Cheese Plate. I think I shall go back. Cheese holds a very specific power over me. If you decide to go, I recommend either the Spinach Pistou pasta or the Eggs Benedict with Crab Cakes.

Stop by Gerry's Half-Off tomorrow morning at 8:00 and you can buy two $25 gift certificates for $25.

(The financial deal would be the half-off... not referring to Mr. House's mental state.)

How did the server say that? Just, "You ordered too much food"?

She said "That's a lot of food. Too much for two people."

A) she was from Germany.

B) She had no idea that Tim had just ridden in a 75 mile bike ride

C) We were taking half of it home to have the next day for dinner.

Needless to say, she probably shouldn't have expected the 25% tip we normally leave.

Ah. I see.

Once a guy ordered a fried chicken salad (entree-sized) from me, as well as a 22-oz. t-bone steak and baked potato and dessert. As his server I made him aware he wasn't ordering a starter salad. He said he knew, but that he was a weight lifter.

I just didn't want him to get mad that his bill was a billion dollars.

I don't mind if it's that...I've had several servers let me know the portions are large on salads/appetizers. That's usually helpful, especially if you've never been to the restaurant before.

The weird thing is that this similar event also happened at another restaurant in another city two weeks earlier. Tim+Bike Ride+me ordering appetizer and main course=sneering server telling us that we ordered too much food.

That just strikes me as kind of an odd thing to do if you are in the business of getting paid on tips. The first time I actually said that to the server. The second time (here at Bistro 2one5) I let it go. I figured over in Germany people must not order as much or something. Except that I've been to Germany and they do. But whatever.

Sam at Sam's Sushi downtown told this giant, overweight (I'm talking pushing 300) woman that she ordered too much food, that what she ordered was for 2 people. Then he said, "I make you one, if you still hungry you come back."

Priceless.

I do like Bistro 215 though, the food's not bad at all. I'm still pissed that the server at Mirror went ahead and told the chef to cook Caruthers' steak medium rare instead of the rare he asked for so by the time it came out it was medium well. THAT pisses me off.
