The Strange Case Of The Walking Corpse

I've been so captivated with the NiT posting that this little unread corner of the world is sadly neglected.

Eh well. All things to all people and whatnot.

Raided the library this week. New acquisitions:

The Cold Six Thousand. Ellroy. Recommended by Sarcastro. Reading it now. Writing like this from Ellroy influence. Have not yet used the 'n' word, in spite of Ellroy's influence.

Sorcery & Cecilia Recommended in a roundabout way by PKN. She spent her money on it, so it must be worth a glance.

The Strange Case Of The Walking Corpse Recommended by mine own sick brain. Book of odd diseases and strange cures. Did you know willow tree bark and aspirin share similar chemical makeups? Next time I have a headache I'll go out back and munch on a stick. Worst part about this book? I keep thinking I've got the weird diseases. So far today I've mentally diagnosed myself with: Rabies, Leprosy, Flesh-Eating Bacteria and Plague. Let it be said that my only symptom is a headache and slight sore throat.

One of the Rabies guys got a prolonged erection, which made me think. What if someday they discover that Rabies toxin, in small amounts, works like Viagra? It'd be like all those nutburgers out there who shoot botulism toxin into their face so they don't get wrinkles. "Yes, I'll have a small dose of poison. As long as I look good, who cares that for many centuries this same goo has killed people without mercy?!" Any rate, I can just see people lining up to get a dose of RabiRise or whatever they'd call it. Gives whole new meaning to 'hair of the dog'....

I better stop now. God only knows what Google searches this post will incite.

They're giving you extra pay for the extra day, yes?

I had to A) go to chuch and B) take a nap today. It ate into my time.

Who knows about the extra day? I think they probably are. I DO know they aren't paying me by the hour or the word. Which is a good thing for them.

I'm eating through their bandwidth like....
well, I won't say it. But it involved Courtney Love.

I had an actual comment to make about your post, but all this off topic banter has made me forget what it was.

Wait here while I go read it again.

I can't remember. Rex sleepy...and sober.

Wait, I think it had something to do with odd diseases and a class I took in college...

hmmm...

Nevermind. I can't find it, but it does sound like an interesting read.

Ellroy hits you with the first sentence like a shot to the mouth.

Cold Six Thousand is the sequel to American Tabloid. You may want to hit that one first.

Kind of like reading Two Towers before Fellowship, to put it into a context you can appreciate.

Speaking of 'shot to the mouth....', you've got one comin' for that remark.

I've already read American Tabloid, albeit yars en yars ago. That's the book I'll always remember as the one wherein Jack Ruby rapes dogs. *shivers from the grossness*

Yes, indeedy. The first sentence of this book (cold 6) sort of makes you sit up and go "Oh, this isn't another Amy Tan book."

That's a lot of big fightin' talk coming from a peace-lovin' Mennonite.

That nutty Ellroy sure loves to slander the dead. He said recently his only wish is to outlive Clinton, so he can write about ol' Bubba.

The only thing I love more than peace is smackin' wiseasses about the head.

You know, for Clinton he could just go ahead and write. I'd read it.

Headache and sorethroat? That is where I was about Day One of The Sickness, last week. Tomorrow it will be, thick chest congestion and coughing. Good Luck.
