Brad Pitt, That Stellar Example Of Marriage, Speaks Out

Brad is apparently going on a hunger strike making a useless, pompous gesture on behalf of gay marriage rights.

He won't marry Angelina until EVERYONE can marry whom they choose.

Wow. I see so many people rushing right out to change their opinion on this issue because of Brad's bravery vast egotism.

Why should I care when Brad Pitt marries. This is not a fairy tale. The kingdom will not falter should he fail to take Angelina to wife.

he's not the first to have done it, just the most famous.

I think this is his way of saying, "She'd probably never marry me anyway, so I might as well make it look good."

Why didn't I think of that ploy?

Lee?!?! Wow, dude.

I had to take that comment down, but for those of you left wondering, Lee points out that yes, Brad will in all likelihood continue to get the milk for free.

Bekah, I'm with you.

dolphin, do you think it really makes a difference in the opinions of people who are against gay marriage when someone takes this position?

I've long been of the opinion that I'd rather see celebrities "live-in-sin" (as my Church of Christ roots would describe) than see them make a mockery of marriage by getting hitched with no real intention of making it "til death do us part".

And that is one inflated ego to think that anyone really cares enough about his marriage status to do something about marriage rights. I'm with you, its useless and pompous. I'll go ahead and add ass to that as well.

Malia, I totally agree.

Malia - as another 'C of C' rooted carbon-based life form, I'm with you totally. Relationships and marriage by press release has all the sanctity of those mokes on Maury who claim not to be responsible for THAT BABY.

I guess when you are lionized and paparazzied to death, you begin to think that the importance attached to your acting and your face bleeds over into the world of public pronouncements. Why we give these folks any creedence because they are famous is beyond me.

There are a few celebs who actually do the research and spend the time and the money to qualify as experts (I'll cite Bono and i'm sure that some of you will snicker), but those celeb-perts are few and far between.

This is the most beautifully masked case of non-commitment I've seen in a while. I'm impressed.

Malia, John H and others...

That was exactly the feeling I was trying to express with the headline. Here we have a man who left one wife when a shinier penny was dangled in front of him. Now he's fathered one, possibly two children with another woman and deems the sanctity of his family not important enough to require even the pseudo-committment that most film stars call "marriage".

No matter which side of the Gay Marriage debate you fall under, I'd think you'd be pretty embarrassed to have this weak sister speak for you.

How much do you want to bet that his publicist told him that he needed to do something to increase his appeal to the gay community? What an ass!

I had no idea about this.

I don't really want him on my side. Sure, he's pretty and all, but really, I don't want him jumping on Oprah's couch for my people.

I read a study somewhere a year or so ago that said the revenue from gay marriages, e.g. taxes et cetera, could actually be a net benefit to the GDP because both parties generally work so they'd have more taxation as a couple than separately.
