Random Question

For the past 5 hours the top story on my AP News feed via Excite has been Katie Couric's anchor debut at CBS News.

During wartime.

Why? In case you were interested in things like the war we are fighting, you can thank blogs like Today In Iraq, which seems less concerned with how its legs look on television.

And yes, I linked to an (apparently) left-leaning war blog on purpose. I don't want this to be a "I hate the liberal media so let's look at conservative blogs" post. I want this to be a "let's get away from soft-peddled pap and back to real news" post.

The media doesn't give a crap about anything, except their paychecks, and whatever is bringing in the viewers is what they're going to report on. I don't hate liberal media, I hate all media like CBS, CNN, FOX, etc. They're too preoccupied with themselves and their competitors to really care about what's going on and what's true.

In defense of the media on this (not that I care a lick about Katie Couric), there's really not enough new information coming out of Iraq to provide 24 hour coverage.

Definitely not, Dolphin. But is there enough coming out of Iraq or Israel or Korea to at least serve as the top news story for the day? That's all I ask.

Two marines were killed in action in Iraq on Sunday but on Monday all we heard about was Steve Irwin.

I keep wondering if the media paid as much attention to those dying in Iraq as they do to celebrity deaths, would this war be any different?

Watch enough war coverage and you'll end up jacked up on all sorts of medication. I think a diversion is nice. Plus, nobody's going to watch solely for the war coverage anyway.

Sista, don't get me wrong. I love a diversion. It's why I subscribe to Entertainment Weekly and own a TiVo and Comcast onDemand. It's why I read all the time.

But the lead news story for a news day? Not even the "entertainment" news, but the world news?

That's where I'm breaking down.

Show of hands, who's seen "Network"?

The movie is so creepy because it's largely what's happened at CBS news. I'm waiting until Sybil the Seuthsayer shows up.

The whole segment of ordinary people called "FreeSpeech" is eerily similar to a segment in Network that they called "vox populi."
