Sundance Controversy

There's apparently a great deal of controversy at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Generally I ignore the Sundance Film Festival, as it seems to be the movies' version of an uptight Vassar grad who stops shaving her armpits, smokes clove cigarettes and changes her name to Blix. Too much hippie-art pretension for my taste.

But this year there is a new controversy that has sucked me into a vortex.

Parker Posey is back.

I have no earthly idea why people keep putting her in their pictures. I really wish they wouldn't, because she just freaks me out with her witchiness. The only film where it worked in her favour was Dazed and Confused. After that she just sort of struts around every film like a praying mantis on meth--all scrawny and twitchy.

Anyway, this year is apparently her Sundance Comeback.

Woo hoo.

Heh. She has always annoyed me too, and I agree about her turn in Dazed and Confused, but I kind of liked her in The House of Yes. She does crazy as a loon pretty well.

Other than Dazed, when she's not playing someone certifiably nuts, she's annoying.

I've always kind of had a thing for Parker Posey since Party Girl.

Y'know, in that "Wouldn't it be cool if that crack head was my girlfriend" kind of way.

I actually think she is hilarious. Yes, she is a total nutcase, but I like it. My fave was Fiona in Josie and the Pussycats. Perfect role for her.

I hated her in Blade: Trinity. She kept lifting her upper lip to show off the fangs and apparently acting for her requires lots of eyebrow use - lifting them with every other word.

In watching the Director's Commentary, the guy said he brought in people from Best in Show (I believe) because he loved that movie.

Never mind that Parker was horribly mis-cast... or that the script was awful... and Triple H had a role in it. Ugh.

She was great when she was on "Boston Legal" because all the characters on that show are completely whacky!

Aha. The truth comes out. I have all of you folks to blame for the fact that this strange woman will NOT go away.

John, ironically I think that it was her turns in those two movies that put me off her for good. Prior to that I didn't mind her as much. (And yes, Sar, I even kinda liked her in Party Girl.)

But by Blade:Trinity I was ready to crawl into the screen and claw her eyes out from under her creepily twitcy eyebrows.

From the Parke Posey Posse, fort wayne chapter:

I've adored her ever since Party Girl. I saw house of yes, I saw her on Boston Legal... The list goes on and on.

I think I have a thing for crazy actors. Another Boston Legal actor, William Shatner, fascinates me even more than Parker Posey.

"Where's her Busy Bee?!!>#*%%*^@@"
Best in Show Rocks

Kat, you ignorant slut...uh, that's a Saturday Night Live early years reference. I actually am a big Kat fan despite her misguidedness on the Parker Posey in 'Waiting for Guffman'.

My age often shows at work when I'm making cultural references to tv shows or songs from many years ago. One day in a meeting when I was having a disagreement on some work policy (this was a friendly disagreement), I retorted with ________, you ignorant slut. The object of the comment laughed, but the look of horror on the 4 younger people at the table was priceless. They thought I was going to be confined to 12 years in the 'inappropriate comments in the workplace jail' or perhaps being buried under said jail. I've pretty much retired THAT comment to people my age or nearly my age.

Having said all that..howthehell..I mean, what's wrong with P.Posey in Guffman? I'm willing to throw out her role in 'Best in Show' for the sake of argument because I can see how she might drive some non P.P.P.P. (parker posey posse people) up the wall.

But, as the Dairy Queen ingenue'..what's not to like? My opinion may be tinged by the halo effect based on my opinion that 'Guffman' is one of the great comedies of the 20th century.

I forgot about 'Party Girl' when I wrote before. She was kinda made for that role, imo.

I was tripl-y happy happy happy to see your parkerposey props. I'm sad that Kat appears to be pissing, perhaps on the parkerposeypossepeople, possibly.

I don't know, I really liked her in 'Guffman' and 'Best In Show'. Also, she was really good at being obnoxious as heck in 'Mighty Wind'.

Other than that, I find her disconcerting.
