To answer your post, I never actually made it through Darwin's Radio. I got about 200 pages in and then, in an unprecedented move, put it down. This was about seven months ago, and I have very little motivation to pick it up again. This is very unusual for me. Usually I'll slog my way through a book because I hate to leave things unfinished, but I just lost interest in this one. He's never been one of my favorite writers, but I keep going back to see if the well is still dry. yup.
I'm with you on Brin. He and Orson Scott Card are by far my favorite SF writers. Have you read "Kiln People?" It's a real mind-stretcher. Let me know if you haven't and I can send you my copy.
